Wandermärchen im Burgwald-Ederbergland
From short walking routes to circular and City Hiking Trails, and all the way to the 50-kilometre Premium long-distance trail “Burgwaldpfad” – more than 20 Wandermärchen (literally “hiking fairy tales”) in the Burgwald-Ederbergland leave nothing to be desired.
With its high density of protected areas, the region between Marburg an der Lahn, the edge of the Sauerland and the Kellerwald is a hotspot of nature and landscape conservation in Germany, making it an attractive destination for everyone seeking nature experiences and peaceful relaxation. Here you can hear the rustling of leaves in the wind, the crackling of dry foliage underfoot as mice search for food, the distant calls of tawny owls at dusk, or the gentle babbling of a stream – all without the intrusive noise of everyday life.
The Premium Hiking Region Burgwald-Ederbergland
On certified hiking trails, visitors can immerse themselves in the vast Burgwald forest, with its mosaic of small peat-filled valleys, the valley landscape of the upper Eder, and the wooded Ederbergland, shaped by near-natural forest meadow valleys.
Culturally and historically significant sites, charming villages and towns with a wealth of cultural monuments and romantic half-timbered architecture, as well as the settlements of Huguenot-Waldensian religious refugees, are all waiting to be discovered here.
The “W” in “Wandermärchen Burgwald-Ederbergland” can be explored on 19 Premium circular hiking trails, one Premium long-distance trail, two Premium Walking Trails and two Premium City Hiking Trails. These routes lead through distinctive natural landscapes to cultural-historical sites and geotopes, with scenic views along the way. Depending on personal interests and fitness levels, the trails can be selected individually. Hiking here is also rewarding in every season – always offering a new experience.
The hiking trails are truly fairy-tale-like: here, hikers can discover the world of the Brothers Walking TrailGrimm as illustrated by Otto Ubbelohde, along with a wealth of myths and legends.
