Teutoschleifen & Teutoschleifchen
A total of 17 trails in the Teutoburg Forest – known in short as the “Teutoschleifen” – attract hikers from all over Germany to the legendary Teutoburg Forest. Strictly speaking, the Teutoschleifen comprise seven Premium Trails. In addition, there are their smaller siblings, the Teutoschleifchen, certified as Premium Walking Trails, as well as North Rhine-Westphalia’s first urban hiking trail in the hilltop town of Tecklenburg. With lengths of between three and seven kilometres, the Teutoschleifchen are shorter and less demanding, yet just as varied and rich in experiences. It is therefore no surprise that the German Hiking Institute has certified all Teutoschleifen as “Premium Trails” – every route meets the very highest quality standards.
The Premium Hiking Region Tecklenburger Land
Germany’s northernmost Premium Trails – hiking experiences at the highest level.
What makes Germany’s northernmost Premium Trail region so special? Natural beauty and diversity that can almost take your breath away. There are countless examples: along the Hermannsweg between Hörstel and Lienen, for instance, where the Teutoschleifen line up like a string of pearls. This allows for a variety of route lengths and makes the area particularly family-friendly and easy on the joints. Spectacular views unlike any others await after the climbs – with vistas reaching as far as the Osnabrück region and Münsterland.
Affectionately known among hikers as the “Tuscany of the North” for its charming and playful beauty, the Teutoburg Forest offers many more delightful highlights along its loops. The so-called “Nasse Dreieck”, an interesting transport junction of German inland navigation, can be admired on the Bevergerner Pättken. The Himmelsleiter on the Waldauenweg near Riesenbeck takes visitors high up – 256 steps in total, each one well worth it for the unbeatable view. Whether impressive rocky landscapes or captivating forest panoramas, the “Dörenther Klippen” and the “Dreikaiserstuhl” are sure to delight true nature lovers. The Teutoschleife “Heiliges Meer” is a true hiking paradise – a varied mix of water, forests, moorland, wet meadows and heathland. Sparkling highlights await on the “Canyon Blick” and “Canyon Tour”, where a former quarry with emerald-green water draws the eye. Westphalia’s largest megalithic tomb can be admired on the “Sloopsteener Seerunde”. Around the hilltop town of Tecklenburg, romantic half-timbered charm and the silence of the forest give the trails their special atmosphere.
Anyone looking for Premium Hiking should not miss the award-winning Teutoschleifen: magical landscapes, characterful little towns and exclusive Premium Trails made for switching off and slowing down. Whether it is mining history on the “Steinbecker Runde”, forest relaxation by the water in the “Köllbachtal”, the clatter of the mill on the “Ladbergener Pättken” or geological insights on the “Brochterbecker Landpartie” – it is this extraordinary diversity of experiences that gives the Premium Trails their very special appeal. On “Modersohns Spuren”, visitors can even trace the artistic spirit of the Westphalian painter.
Families who love hiking and adventurous visitors will also find plenty to enjoy in the Tecklenburg region, for example geocaching on six Teutoschleifchen.

„The Teutoschleifen are the northern lights of the PremiumWanderWelten. On windy, fresh days, you can almost smell the sea. I find this region sensationally varied.“
