Water Garden & Sequoia Farm

In the immediate vicinity of Premium Hiking Trail 2 – Galgenvenn, near the Waldgasthaus Galgenvenn in Nettetal-Kaldenkirchen, a geo-hydrological water garden can be found on Buschstrasse.

Covering an area of 10,500 m², it gives visitors insights into the formation of the landscape on the left bank of the Lower Rhine and its special habitats. A soil profile provides information about the region’s soil layers; a 130-metre stream can be followed from its source to its mouth; and in the infiltration garden, the amount of rainwater infiltration through different materials is illustrated, along with much more.

Opposite lies the Sequoia Farm, home to around 600 different woody plant species, including giant sequoias, coast redwoods and dawn redwoods. Rare woody species such as the Kobushi magnolia from Japan, the California incense cedar from the western United States and Szechuan pepper from central China are also waiting to be discovered here.
