Brüggen Castle
The first documented mention of Brüggen Castle and its mill dates back to 1289. In the mid-14th century, the castle was expanded into a fortress with four towers; in the 17th century, the buildings between the towers were raised to their present height. From 1494 until 1794, Brüggen Castle remained the northernmost border fortress of the Duchy of Jülich. In 1801, it was privatised by the French government and has remained in private ownership ever since. In 1974, the municipality of Brüggen leased the castle for the Museum Mensch und Jagd, which opened in 1979. Since October 2002, the castle has also housed the redesigned Nature Park Information Centre, featuring an exhibition of typical sections of the Nature Park’s landscapes in the form of dioramas.
